What is Internal Communication?

Internal Communication is all communication within an organisation. Internal Communications may be oral, written, face to face, one-on-one or in groups. It may be virtual or Digital such as LCD screens or the a corporate screensaver.

Effective internal communication is a vital means of addressing organisational concerns. Clear and concise internal communication helps to establish formal roles and responsibilities for employees and maintain organization and clarity within an establishment.

Effective internal communication can increase sales and motivate staff; it can also improve morale, engage employees and increase efficiency. In today’s often hectic working environments, communicating clearly is a challenge. ‘Information overload’ is common. With numerous channels, such as email, communications can become lost or diluted. In some environments, not all staff have access to email and so it becomes even more difficult to reach these employees through 'normal' channels.
